Prompt intent
Term from the world of AI visibility – explained simply by the GeoStars team.
The intent behind a prompt – for example informing, comparing or buying. It determines what kind of answer and which sources an AI provides.
Want to know how your brand stands on this topic? GeoStars measures your AI visibility across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Mode – First measurement in minutes · 7 days free, charged only afterwards.
The common intents
Informational: “What is GEO?”. Comparative or commercial: “Which tool is better, A or B?”. Transactional: “GeoStars pricing”. Navigational: searching for a specific page. Comparative prompts are especially close to purchase – that's where it's decided whether an AI recommends your brand.
Intent in the measurement
GeoStars automatically assigns an intent to every prompt once it's created. Visibility per intent shows in which phase of the decision your brand is missing – for example, visible for explanatory questions but invisible for comparisons.
In the app, the five groups are called “Comparing providers”, “Looking for recommendations”, “Searching locally”, “Researching” and “Ready to buy”.
