In depth

Why machines need structure

Schema.org markup makes content machine-readable: prices, reviews, FAQs, organizations and people are labeled unambiguously instead of being guessed from running text. Search engines build rich results from it – and AI systems use the same structure to extract facts reliably and understand entities: Who is this brand, what does it offer, what does it cost?

The most important types for GEO

FAQPage for questions and answers, Organization with all company data, SoftwareApplication/Product with Offers (prices), Article/TechArticle with author and date, DefinedTerm for glossaries and BreadcrumbList for the structure. Important: the markup has to match the visible content – otherwise you risk losing trust with Google and AI alike.

Frequently asked questions
RAG systems process the source code of pages – clean markup measurably makes it easier to extract facts. For Google AI Overviews, structured data is the foundation anyway.
With Organization on the homepage, FAQPage on pages with questions and correct prices in the Offers markup. Then check whether AI answers pick up the facts – through monitoring.
