Frequently asked questions about the glossary

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the umbrella term: optimization for all generative AI systems. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) focuses on answer engines and direct answers. GAIO (Google AI Overview Optimization) is the specialty for Google's AI overviews. In practice the three overlap heavily – if you do GEO systematically, you cover AEO and GAIO as well.
The five most important ones: AI visibility (the goal), prompt (the new unit instead of keywords), Visibility Score (the base metric), Share of Voice (the competitive comparison) and Citation (the source citation). With those you can follow any GEO discussion – and go deeper in the linked guides.
Yes, continuously – AI search is evolving fast, and we add new terms (like llms.txt or AI Mode) as soon as they become relevant. Last updated: July 2026.
